I have posted a link to this forum on the old phpBB Vets Facebook group, hopefully you will have some more members coming your way shortly.

I don't think you should allow guest posting in any capacity. It opens up the door to more spam and makes bans unenforceable.

@Random American... you are a registered user and you are a spammer.

You posted on the phpBB Support Forum that you do not use the old phpBB versions.

Yet you have joined this forum which clearly states it is for the old phpBB versions that you said you do not and would not use.

You have already demonstrated being a spammer by replying to a post asking for help - you replied just to say you don't know how to help.

A very good rule used among many of the busy forums out there is that if you are not going to add anything to the topic you should not reply to it - so replying to a topic to say you can't add anything to that topic is just filling the topic with posts that are irrelevant to the topic.

Daniel who runs this site has 5 other phpBB forums and is very experienced at running them, he doesn't need any advice on running this forum as he does a fine job on his other forums, especially his brilliant dance music forum.

Spam is posting advertising links which none of us are doing.

No matter what board you have, allowing guests to post makes spam scrips more likely to post their links on the board. Ask a phpBB team member and they'd explicitly say so.

That depends,

A busy board will have a moderator or moderators that check the board every few hours, it's very easy to keep on top of spam.
If you run a board that gets 2 posts a day you would get bored of checking for new posts so that's when they get out of control because a spammer will pop on and post away.

Half the phpBB team members have boards that are old and unused, where as folk who run busy boards on a daily basis and have done so for many years don't get a problem with spam as they have a well run set up.

Just curious, why did you decide to parody Lumpy's name?

Let us try to stay on topic here guys, on the topic of spam it is worth taking a minute to digest that the administrator of this forum has disallowed guests from posting links which means there won't be any spam links posted.

The only report I made on phpBB was about an abandoned extension being abandoned, and that was over a year ago. Hardly shooting from the hip with the report button. I do have a good idea on who you are though.

I also don't give a shit about the name parodies, as I said, I was just curious.

Wasn't aware that there was a MOD for early phpBB3 that did that. I forgot the extension was a port of a MOD. I'm sure it makes quoting a pain though, since quotes here by default contains a url link, alongside the disabled BBcode.

Indeed. Guests can not post links here.
Also, guest have to answer to the security question, everytime he posts.

I think you have good intentions But the simple truth is you are totally in experience and have a lot to learn for example why did you put all these topic in the feed back such as forum rules those should go on the main page at the very top.

People can edit. It just has an edit time limit set.

Edit: Yep, just edited this post, since the time hasn't expired yet.

phpBB does not allow editing or deleting when you're posting as a guest. You need an account for those features.

If I set edit option for guests, then a guest would be able to edit other guests posts.

Indeed. Guests can not post links here.
Also, guest have to answer to the security question, everytime he posts.

And they must set a username. So not a lot of spam will be posted, as far as I can guess.

Typically, in phpBB, guests cannot edit posts regardless of whether the permissions are set to yes. I doubt it would allow them to edit guest posts in any capacity.

You may be right. I know this was real in phpBB2. Probably in phpBB3, there is no risk for that.
Either way, most of the spamming I am guessing will come from logged it users. Not from guests.

A forum that decides to support phpBB Olympus, for various reasons, shouldn't even consider the existence of Ascraeus.
For me phpBB 3.1 is a computer virus.

I did not delete all spam to have the forum seem more active.
That will change in time.
